Overview of Windows SNMP Development Products

The Windows SNMP Development products fall into the following categories:

• SNMPv3 Agent Development for Windows - SNMP Agent Studio for Windows and SNMPv3 Master Agent Service for Windows
• SNMPv3 Manager Development for Windows using C++ - SNMP Manager Studio for Windows
• SNMPv3 Manager Development for Windows using C# with Controls in .NET - SNMPv3 ActiveX Control and MIB Compiler ActiveX Control

These NuDesign’s SNMP products have been tested on Windows Server 2003 & 2008, Windows XP SP3, Windows Vista 32 bit and 64 bit and Windows 7 32 bit and 64 bit using Visual Studio 2008 and 2010 where applicable.

For an SNMP Agent project for Windows, a developer uses SNMP Agent Studio for Windows, containing agent generation wizard called Visual xAgentBuilder for C++, SNMPv3 SDK C++ Library and SNMPv3 Configuration Editor.  The wizard is installed as a template under MS Visual Studio IDE and it generates a complete, immediately compilable SNMP Agent project right within the MS Visual Studio, either in standalone, or in Master Agent / extension DLL or Remote subagent (AgentX - rfc2741) configuration.

For example, 3 developers team designing Windows standalone SNMP Agent (or extension DLL for use with SNMP Master Agent Service for Windows) would require the following products:

The NDT-2551 Professional Studio already contains the SNMP Pro Applications Bundle: MIB Builder, MIB Browser Pro and SNMP Traffic Monitor.

To upgrade MS Windows to secure SNMPv3 the Microsoft SNMPv1/v2c Agent Service needs to be replaced with:

For an SNMP Manager project for Windows a developer uses SNMP Manager Studio for Windows, containing SNMP Manager generation wizard called Visual xManagerBuilder for C++, SNMPv3 SDK Library and SNMPv3 Configuration Editor.  The xManager Builder wizard runs under Windows and it generates a complete SNMP Manager project (sources, headers and Make / Project files) for MS Visual Studio.
