+-----------------------------------------------------------+ | NuDesign SNMPv3 Agent Service for Windows | +-----------------------------------------------------------+ NuDesign SNMPv3 Agent Service is a seamless upgrade of Microsoft SNMP v1/v2c Service. All SNMP extension DLLs that run with the Microsoft SNMP service will run with NuDesign SNMPv3 Agent Service as well. The agent can be controled from an included configuration utility. SNMP agent can run as SNMPv1, SNMPv2c or SNMPv3 agent. When running in SNMPv1 mode, the agent will reply to SNMPv1 requests only and it will send SNMPv1 notifications only. When running in SNMPv2c mode, the agent will reply to SNMPv1 and SNMPv2c requests, and it will send SNMPv1 and/or SNMPv2c notifications based on the configuration. When running in SNMPv3 mode, the agent will reply to SNMPv1, SNMPv2c and SNMPv3 requests based on the security and access control configuration. It will send SNMPv1, and/or SNMPv2c and/or SNMPv3 notifications based on the configuration. Please consult help for more details on configuring the NuDesign SNMPv3 Agent Service. Please note that NuDesign SNMPv3 Agent Service (full version) requires a valid License File to be present in the Windows System32 directory. The License File specifies the number of copies that you may install in your company. You should receive your License File either from NuDesign or from your reseller. By default agent guards from simultaneous execution of callbacks in the same extension DLL by two (or more) threads. User that disables serialization by setting [HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\NDMpAgent\Parameters\General\SerializeDllAccess=0] practically allows two different callbacks from the same DLL to be executed simultaneously. Also, there is a possibility of callback reentrancy, i.e callback can be partially executed by one thread, reentered by another thread, and then resumed from the original thread. Serialization of access to shared data (mutual exclusion,...) is responsibility of the user. - Message logged in case when thread has been restarted now includes decoded SNMP message and the name of extension DLL that was handling that request ver 8.7.3- Jan 26, 2009 - Added dependency to "ProtectedStorage" service for Windows 2000 installs. Without this dependency, service was failing to start during boot on some Windows 2000 server machines. ver 8.7.2- Nov 17, 2008 - Fixed counters: unknownPDUHandlers, unknownContexts, and unavailableContexts. Note that Microsoft AES Cryptographic Provider is not available for Windows 2000/NT. Service can still operate with AES USM users on Windows 2000/NT provided that crypto library from OpenSSL (libeay32.dll) is installed in the system directory. For OpenSSL distribution and license terms please check www.openssl.org or gnuwin32.sourceforge.net/packages/openssl.htm. ver 8.4.0.1 - Dec 14, 2007 - Fixed resource leak. ver 8.4 - Nov 6, 2007 - Added the checking of license file for full version release. ver 8.3 - Sep 20, 2007 - Relaxed requirements for loading extension DLLs - DLL is required to export only SnmpExtensionInit and SnmpExtensionQuery(Ex). - Fixed extension DLL loading - directory where DLL is located is added to the search path for dependencies - Fixed handling of GetNext in case extension DLL returns invalid "next" - Increment snmpInASNParseErrs if message contains valid BER encoding but does not follow the correct SNMP message format (for example version is encoded as octet string instead of integer) - Fixed incrementing of snmpUnknownPDUHandlers and snmpSilentDrops - Fixed snmpv2/v3 response pdu containing error, comand responder was removing vblist form the response pdu which is correct only for 'tooBig' error - Fixed handling of multiphase set request. Number of UNDOs didn't match number of COMMITs in case RowStatus varbind is not the 1st vb in varbind list. ver 8.2 - Apr 24, 2007 - Fixed sending traps coming from remote subagents when agent runs in v1 or v2 mode - Fixed notification filtering (v3 mode) ver 8.1 - Feb 07, 2007 - Fixed error-status values generated for SNMPv2 access to MIB data, values readOnly, noSuchName and badValue are ot allowed in SNMPv2/v3 responses - Changed processing of GetNext/GetBulk - agent aborts further processing on any error except noSuchName and error response is sent to the manager - Fixed Getbulk processing - negative values in no-repeaters and max-repetitions are reset to zero (RFC 3416) - Agent implements INDSnmpAgent interface. Pointer to this interface is passed to extension DLL during loading if Ext DLL implements NDSnmpExAgIfInit function. Extension DLL can use this interface to directly manipulate agent settings. NDHeap.dll is required for proper use of the interface. - Fixed sending traps coming from remote subagents ver 8.0 - Aug 25, 2006 - added AES Cipher Algorithm to USM (Rfc 3826) (requires libeay32.dll - crypto lib from openssl) - fixed "UNDO" problem (undo was not being called after commit failed) ver 7.1 - Feb 12, 2005 Disable Proxy Forwarder when agent started in SNMPv1 or SNMPv2c mode Disable remote subagent handling if port specified < 1000 ver 7.0 - Dec 21, 2005 Added remote subagent handling capability. Support for forwarding of incoming v1/v2c messages will be added in the upcoming release. ver 5.4 - Nov 18, 2003 - Made usage of spin-lock optional (or advisory, i.e. it is good practise to use it, but if it is not used it won't prevent execution of the request). Applies to tables in snmpTargetObjects group, usmUser group, and vacmMIBViews group. - Fixed indexing in snmpTargetAddrTable, snmpTargetParamsTable and snmpNotifyFilterTable (IMPLIED) - Added implementation of snmpTargetAddrExtTable (rfc 2576) - Fixed error index reported fot multi-varbinds request - fixed parsing of index of type IP address in set request (SSI) ver 5.3 - May 08, 2003 - fixed processing of row creation using createAndWait/active pair in the same request - Fixed target address table; rows created through SNMP/HTTP request were not used for sending notifications - implemented dynamic registry update (config data changed through SNMP/HTTP request will be saved to registry after DynUpdateDelay seconds; DynUpdateDelay is new string value in the [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\NDMPAgent\Parameters\General] To disable dynamic registry update set this value to -1; - sysDescr and sysObjectID are now configurable (values with the same names under [mib-2.system] key) If sysDescr is missing, agent will set this value to HW and SW info of the system If sysObjectID is missing, agent will set this value to "1.3.6.1.4.1.4761.1.2" = ndAgent [NUDESIGN-AGENT-MIB] - implemented ndAgDescr and ndAgVersion MIB objects [NUDESIGN-AGENT-MIB] ver 5.2 - Apr 15, 2003 - fixed processing of invalid v3 request (pdu is Confirmed class, but Reportable Flag is zero) ver 5.1 - Apr 11, 2003 - Fix - errorStatus/errorIndex parameters of SnmpExtensionQuery set to zero before call ver 5.0 - Apr 06, 2003 - Addedd HTTP agent to service (initial release of multiprotocol agent) ver 3.4. - Oct 24, 2002 - fixed sysUpTime reported in v1Traps - added OEM support - static link with NDSnmp DLLs (NDMem.dll still required!) ver 3.3. - May 10, 2002 - fixed handling of traps from mutilple extension dlls - fixed changing of port number - fixed get-next processing when extension dll returns invalid error code ver 3.2. - Feb 07, 2002 - fixed decoding of improperly encoded requests ver 3.1. - Dec 19, 2001 - fixed handling of error condition returned from extension dll - updated default configuration ver 3.0. - Nov 01, 2001 - Support SNMPv3, file names changed. ver 1.9.0.0. - Jun 05, 2001 - Fix: changing sysName remotely was not allowed ver 1.8.0.0. - Mar 09, 2001 - Yet another fix of the BITS syntax objects. ver 1.7.0.0. - Feb 01, 2001 - Fixed handling of the BITS syntax objects. ver 1.6.0.0. - Sep 20, 2000 - Rev'd for release. ver 1.5.0.94 - Sep 19, 2000 - Integrated 1.5.0.92 fix to all services. ver 1.5.0.92 - Sep 19, 2000 - Fixed region sorting algorithm (region = object identifier) ver 1.5.0.91 - Sep 7, 2000 - Removed dependencies on Snmpapi.dll. Use NDMem instead. ver 1.5 - Aug 31, 2000 - Added support for callbacks from extension DLLs. Service checks for the exported function "NDSnmpExSetEngineConfig" and if present calls it passing pointer to ISnmpEngineConfig interface. Entension DLL can query various parameters through this interface. - Added a few configuration parameters to the registry: "NumWorkerThreads"=dword:3 - if not present default is 3 worker threads "EnableWatcherThread"=dword:1 - if not present default is enabled "WatcherCheckInterval"=dword:10 - if not present default is 10 seconds The firt two parameters are useful for debugging extension dll: disable watcher (EnableWatcherThread = 0) and set number of worker threads to 1 (NumWorkerThreads = 1). WatcherCheckInterval represents how long (in seconds) a request can be processed before watcher thread kills worker thread that is handling it. Default is 10 seconds. ver 1.4 - Aug 10, 2000 - bug fix: Timeout for dynamic extension dll loading/unloading has been (ny mistake) set to 1ms causing such action to almost always fail. Timeout is now configurable. Under key [HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\NDSnmpAgent\Parameters\] new DWORD value, "MaxDllLoadTimeInSeconds" is added. If it is missing timeout is set to 15 seconds. The same timeout is used for initial loading (on service startup). If extension dll has long initialization time it is recommended to start background thread to do the job and return from the SnmpExtensionInit as soon as possible. - change: "-debug" cmd line parameter is renamed to "-console". Also starting service from the command line without parameters will eventualy start agent as console app (after StartServiceCtrlDispatcher method fails). This could take a few seconds. Such event will be reported in the event log with warning severity (yellow sign). ver 1.3 - Aug 01, 2000 - initial release Installation procedure For Win98 and WinMe ============================================ 1.
